For the richness, the variety and the excellent conservation of its flora and fauna, Pinar del Rio has earned the nickname of Jardin de Cuba. Unesco declared the Peninsula de Guanahacabibes, the Sierra del Rosario and the Paisaje Cultural de la Humanidad in Valle de Viñales "World Biosphere Reserve".
